Client: Regent Street Association
The Regent Street Association was created to look after the interests of the retailers and business in the area of Regent Street.
Owners of Regent Street, The Crown Estate, wanted to host a traditional Christmas themed light switch on based around the Twelve Days Of Christmas.
Event organisers the Regent Street Association commissioned Wilde Ones for the production of the event, which included a stage built off a side street overlooking Regent Street, high quality branding and stage dressing, two large screens, press area and an extensive backstage area.
Four renowned acts from the classical and theatre world performed throughout the 50 minute show, culminating in members of TeamGB and ParalympicsGB switching on the Christmas lights, and coinciding with a firework display to mark the start of the festive season.
A strict time schedule due to limited road closures meant this build began just after midnight on the day of the event, with the stage, access ramp, dressing, PA and lights being installed throughout the night, morning and early afternoon.
Once Regent Street was closed, further infrastructure was installed, including three double decker buses for press and sponsors, two large screens, a press platform plus barriers and fencing, all within a 90 minute window.
Exact scheduling and excellent relations with contractors and partners ensured that the 50 minute show went ahead on time and was broadcast live on local BBC News.
With an attendance far greater than the previous years, and worldwide press coverage, the switch on was regarded as a great success.
