Case Study | NFL London Games

Working with Wasserman on the 2023 London Games Fan Zones was an extremely enjoyable and challenging experience for the team.

Our longstanding working relationship with Wasserman meant we were able to develop a water-tight plan with the resources to deliver a complex brief.

With 4 NFL fan events across 15 days the scheduling of each build and de-rig in 3 separate locations took some doing.

First Down!

First Down!

Our first stop was Wembley with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Fans could enjoy NFL activations, buy official merchandise or get some pre-game food and beverages in one of the multiple fan zones outside the stadium.

Building each area in public spaces meant plenty of planning with local Wembley stakeholders. Ensuring that access routes were managed with minimum disruption to the public was paramount.

Dovetailing with stadium suppliers meant valuable local knowledge was shared and infrastructure was installed and removed without impacting surrounding businesses and residents.

Next up was the iconic Battersea Power Stadium for an NFL Kick-off event offering training activations, a mini-pitch performance area, sponsor activations and the small matter of 32 giant helmets!

With only one access route to the event site and over 100 vehicles requiring access communicating arrival times was key to avoiding pile ups. Spreading the workload across multiple build days enabled a steady flow of suppliers.

With the event footprint in a (usually) public space, we closed off working areas in phases to allow the public access in the days leading up to the big kick-off.

On The Grid

On The Grid

The design of the event space included grid power outlets in order to allow event planners to reduce their environmental footprint.

Designing the site using only house power meant many hours of discussion to get the most effective positioning of powered activations.

Working with the power specialist we were able to create a greener event and make the most of what the site had to offer.

Lightening The Load

Lightening The Load

Every project we work on is a collaboration, balancing the aesthetic with the practical is always best undertaken as a team.

When the brief is putting thirty-two 500kg giant helmets on a vintage Victorian coal jetty it takes a real team effort.

With input from the H&S specialist, structural engineer and the venue manager the team were able to position the 16+ tonnes of helmets evenly across the jetty and ensure that all helmets made their way back to dry land.

Tight Turnaround

Tight Turnaround

The final destination was Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for fan food zones at the two NFL games hosted in North London.

With the first food zone opening early the morning after Battersea we had to manage assets coming hot off the previous site and ensure the stadium site was prepared to receive the last-minute items.

We tied in with the stadium team early to make sure our work wouldn’t affect stadium traffic and that there was maximum time to set up NFL assets before the gates opened.

Food For Thought

Food For Thought

The food zones combined multiple food options, DJs and Ssponsor activations along with flash mob performances from drumlines and cheerleaders.

With multiple food vendors coming to site and a limited amount of time to serve fans we had to cater for all the site requests and make set up as straightforward as possible.

Diligent advancing with KERB catering and the stadium suppliers ensured that food vendors were in place are ready for action at the beginning of the day.
